BRIEF HISTORY
Nancy grew up in Hawkins, Indiana. She is the older sister of Mike and Holly Wheeler, and she’s a student at Hawkins High School.
Growing up, Nancy was quiet and sweet. She was close with her brother, Mike, and had a friendly relationship with his friends. This changed when she started attending high school and adopting other interests. The disappearance of Will Byers caused tension between Nancy and her family. Her parents grew more protective, which put a damper on Nancy’s social life at times, and Mike often saw her attitude toward Will’s disappearance as insensitive.
When Nancy started dating Steve Harrington, her attitude changed as she was plunged into the more popular social circles. Her best friend, Barb, sensed this change too, and it strained their friendship.
Nancy brought Barb with her to a party at Steve’s house, where she abandoned Barb to have some intimate time with Steve. Barb went missing, and Nancy felt responsible for leaving her alone at the party. As her attention shifted to finding out what happened to Barb, her relationship with Steve grew strained.
As Nancy was looking into Barb’s disappearance, Will’s brother, Jonathan, became an ally, to her surprise. The two of them bonded as they tried to find out what happened to both Will and Barb. This was how Nancy was introduced to the Upside Down, and the monsters plaguing the town. She even entered the other side through the forest and had to run for her life from a monster. This discovery brought her back into the fold with Mike and his friends.
After Will’s mysterious return to Hawkins and the discovery of Barb’s death, Nancy displayed troubled behavior, prone to emotional outbursts. She distanced herself from a concerned Steve and grew closer to Jonathan, looking to avenge Barb by looking deeper into the people who caused the Upside Down to affect their world in the first place. She was also determined to kill the monster that killed Barb.
While Nancy and Jonathan went to visit a conspiracy theorist to tell their story, they slept together. When they returned home they found the Byers residence in disarray and went to Hawkins Lab, where they found Steve, Dustin, Lucas and Max. Nancy tried to explain her status with Jonathan to Steve, who had already drawn his own conclusions, and the came to a peaceful resolution.
A month after the gate was closed, Nancy and Jonathan volunteered at the Hawkins Middle School Snow Ball, where Nancy danced with Mike’s friend, Dustin after he was turned down by several girls he’d asked.
